OUT WITH THE OLD IN WITH THE NEW
The smell of cinnamon in the air, the hypnotic twinkling of lights, the soft singing of carolers in the distance, ok enough with the t. v. crap, but we all know that once Christmas has been laid to bed, our year starts anew and with the New Year comes RESOLUTIONS. Yes, I had the audacity to say the dreaded word that will make us summon up two months of commitment and dedication to some unorthodox regimen or mini hell we’re about to put our bodies, minds and families through, only to go back to our trifling little ways. It’s totally ok, we’ve all fallen victim to the monotony of our lifelong routine, the problem is that we continue to ask for change and meaning in our lives, but are unwilling to make a change or commit to the totality of what that really is or means. We carry multiple burdens of others, loading them incessantly upon ourselves, rushing to put our capes on and deliver them from their distress, but not once stopping to think about the possibility that this is their cross to bear and by rushing to their rescue, you’re stopping them from the lesson they must learn and are ultimately hindering their blessings. We as women have a tendency to be nurturers and are constantly attending to and putting the needs, wants and desires of others first and in return are the first to lose our identities. It’s a must that you remember who you are and dedicate yourself to knowing what made you that very person. The statement in itself seems so simple and yet I’ve found myself neglecting me on multiple occasions. My first love was, is, and always has been writing. I’ve wrote poetry, stories and essays every since I could write and have them saved in binders and backpacks as proof and yet I found myself going months at a time without picking up a pen or piece of paper. Eventually I started to feel as if I had no voice, my head was cloudy because those words that usually flowed so freely had become stunted by not exercising my talent. Once I started paying attention to who I was and what I needed to nourish my soul, to nourish the very thing that what was so much of who I was I lived, breathed and ate it; my life started to have the balance that it needed. Your body is a temple and taking care of you is not an option, you have to ensure your well being before opting to take care of someone else or you won’t have the option to do so. Because I know you’re hard headed and trifling at times (lol) here are a few tips to help you along the way: 1) Practice Makes Perfect- No amateur has ever finished a marathon on their first try, it takes a lot of practice, training, and dedication to perfect that feat and so it must take the same to make steps to changing your life. It get’s hard, the task seems everlasting, but no one ever said that life was a sprint. 2) Kill them with Kindness- For as long as people have walked this earth one thing remains constant; YOU CAN’T CHANGE ANYONE! You are only in control of you, so instead of trying to focus on what they’re doing wrong, focus on what you can do right, by changing the way you handle the situation because truly everything isn’t worth a fight or an argument. The best thing to do is to smile, say ok and then walk away and do you because taking the time out to correct a person every time they mishandle you can become very time consuming, (believe me, I know). And just in case your temper is as bad as mine, go back to step 1, lol. 3) Affirmation brings Confirmation- life as wonderful as it can be also has the tendency to be a knife-wielding b@*ch!! One of the many things that I often try to remember is that in order to love fully, feel deeply and laugh genuinely, there must be pain. There will always be a drawing of blood and you will find that in most instances the deepest cut is usually from those you’d least expect. So by all means bandage your wounds but wallowing in self pity is absolutely not acceptable. So on those forsaken days when I can barely roll myself out of bed I repeat my affirmations to myself and before I get to work I’m ready to tackle whatever comes my way. Get a few sticky notes and write some positive things about you, things that you want out of life, your goals and wishes and just repeat them to yourself until you start to see yourself walk the path to bring those things to fruition. 4) Pull the weeds and Replant your seeds- Addictive, malicious, deceitful, relationships, it sounds so delicious its like candy, we all have them and yet they’re not good for any of us. Those harmful people chip away at our sanity and plant seeds of hatred and malice in our hearts and we become off springs of their vengeance never realizing that this affects the outlook of our lives. I refuse to be weary of being hurt by someone because I’ve been hurt in the past. I refuse to live in the shadows because people are unpredictable. I refuse to stop chasing after my dreams because someone didn’t think that I had what it took to be successful. Those seeds of hatred end here and will not be carried into my new season of progress. Weed those connections out of your life and start surrounding yourself with positive and influential people that want the best for you because they will ensure that you don’t stray to far from success and happiness. I hope these steps help you on your journey into this NEW YEAR as much as they’ve helped me on my journey in life. Remember to love, laugh, stay positive and all should be well. HAVE A GREAT NEW YEAR!!!!!SAPPHIRE |
